Happy New Week! May 11- May 15, 2015

Good Afternoon Parents and Students!

We are winding down to the close of the school year and there is still work to do. Seventh and Eighth Grades are on their Class Trip for the next three days and 5th through 6th Grades will be with me for those days. There will be no math homework through Wednesday. There are Spelling words for this week and corresponding Spelling Homework. I will post the words below.

In Science students must read Chapter 4: Lesson 2 on how energy flows in an ecosystem. Please have students read from page 133 and answer the questions found on page 145. This homework is due tomorrow, May, 12, 2015. Students should also record vocabulary words in their Science notebooks to study for the test next Tuesday. May 19, 2015.

In Social studies we have been learning about native American peoples of the West and are currently learning about the Native Alaskans. Students are currently working on a final project for Chapter 4 (Learning about some of the major Alaskan tribes in the Tundra),  and have partnered with another student to either create a video or PowerPoint Presentation. Students will incorporate the use of green screen in the videos or embedding videos for PowerPoint. Please check in with your students to see what they are working on currently. The three tribes to choose from are Inuit, Inupiat/Inupiaq, Tlingit (Kling-IT). Students doing videos must have a script in order to move on to the next part (recording).
Students may include any prop they would like to use in their video and should make sure that any presentation (video or PowerPoint) has the following: Information about the Tundra, information about how tribes live (lifestyle--nomadic or  hunter-gatherers or home dwellers/foods eaten/belief systems/family structure/types of homes and government/education), and any cool FACTS they would like to include. Please remember to cite your sources (tell where you got your information) and no copy and paste unless you are using a quote from the site). This project is an in-school project, but students may certainly work on what they need from home. The assignment is due next Wednesday, May 20, 2015.
